Our football team has been very successful over the last few months; here is some information about the team.
Ysgol Gymraeg Cwmbrân has got a fantastic football team. We train every Tuesday night in our Sports Club. The teachers are our coaches with Mr Rock responsible for the mixed team and Miss Davies/ Mrs Sennitt responsible for the girls’ team. We are all aware that it’s the taking part that’s important not the result.
In our first game we won 6-2 away against Henllys Church in Wales School. The following pupils played: Luke (captain), Joseph (vice-captain), Lloyd L, Lloyd M and Harry (goalkeeper) from Year 6; Lewis, Dewi and Joseph from Year 5. Joseph C scored a hat-trick, Lloyd L scored a brace and our captain, Luke scored one. Our brilliant coach was MR ROCK (Year 5 teacher). Man of the match according to Mr Rock was Joseph C. It was an exciting game which looks well for the rest of the term.
In our second game we lost 5-2 against Coed Eva Junior School’s strong team. All of the Year 6 pupils played again. In addition to this, Josh made an appearance. From Year 5 Daniel, Dewi, Joseph and Eleri played. Joseph C and Lloyd scored a goal each and we were unfortunate to lose. The man of the match, according to Mr Rock, was Lloyd L who has improved greatly over the last year.
In our third game we won 4-2 against New Inn Primary School. Everyone played from Year 6 except Lloyd M. From Year 5 Lewis W, Lewis R, Eleri and Dewi played. Eleri scored two superb goals – one with a header. Joseph C scored an excellent goal similar to Beckham by lobbing the goalkeeper from a great distance. In addition, Lloyd L scored once again. Mr Rock was extremely pleased with the result and the team’s general attitude. In Mr Rock’s opinion Eleri was the star player – her first goal was of the highest standard.
