Estyn is the office of Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Education and Training in Wales. Estyn carries out inspections of maintained nursery schools and primary schools under Section 10 of the School Inspections Act 1996.
All schools are inspected at least once every six years. The function of an inspection under Section 10 of the Act is to report on:
- the educational standards achieved in the school;
- the quality of education provided by the school;
- the quality of leadership in and management of the school, including whether the financial resources made available to the school are managed efficiently; and
- the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils at the school.
