End of Year Letter:

End of Year Letter:

4th July 2014

2013 – 2014 News:

This year has been another busy year here at Ysgol Gymraeg Cwmbrân.

The School’s P.T.A:

Thank you very much to all the PTA members who have been very busy once again this year. The Committee has worked very hard arranging the Christmas Fayre, Summer Fayre, discos after school, bake sales, arranging tea in open evenings and the sports day and selling ice cream after school every Friday. This year, the money has been spent on four new laptops, an end of year party for year 6 pupils, gifts for the pupils at Christmas and £700 has been given towards end of year trips. The PTA is already thinking of next year’s projects, including a ‘readathon’.

Scholastic Book Fayre money:

Every year, Miss Phillips organises a Scholastic Book Fayre in the school. This year, a profit of £600 was made and we have ordered 100 new dictionaries for September. Thank you very much for all your support and thanks to Miss Phillips for arranging the fayre again this year.

New members of staff:

Unfortunately, we are saying goodbye to some members of staff this year. Miss Manon Jones (Mrs Owen) is leaving us to travel the world, before moving back to live in North Wales. Mrs Bethan Long, who has been in the school for many years, is leaving to teach in a school in Cardiff. Miss Lucy Norman and Miss Toni-Leigh Harris have both had jobs in Ysgol Gyfun Gwynllyw. We wish all of them the best of luck and they will be greatly missed. We will be welcoming new members to the staff in Setember; Miss Catrin Osborne, Miss Gemma Burford, (Mrs Gemma Spanswick in September), Mr Nathan Bridson, Miss Jade Godwin and Miss Jessics Davies. We are also looking forward to welcoming Miss Nerys Griffiths back after her maternity.

This year’s Events:
Over the year, a great deal of activities have been arranged for the pupils. We are very lucky and proud to be able to offer a wide range of opportunities for the pupils, both within the classroom and outside. Extra-curricular activities are very important and most of these activities are arranged by members of staff voluntarily. Some of the activities that have been arranged for the pupils this year are: Family Values weeks, Healthy Eating week and afterschool clubs such as cooking, sewing, sports clubs, choir, the Urdd club and cycling proficiency. A trip to the Eisteddfod in Bala was arranged during half term, a trip to Llangrannog in November, World Book Day, A ‘When I grow up, I want to be …..’ day, Fair Trade Day, E-safety day, Sports Day, Oliver, the choir singing in John Lewis, the Urdd’s swimming gala, a LEGO workshop and a bird box workshop, to name just a few.

We have also funded a new fence around the school, which has enabled us to get a new, bigger yard for the pupils. This has helped us a great deal at break times. S4C has been in to film the pupils twice this year; once for CYW and once for Dona Direidi.

We have also ordered new sport equipment for the school along with a new football and rugby kit thanks to the money raised during our Healthy Eating week and our sponsored event. Thank you very much to Miss Jones and Mr Passmore for their hard work during this week and for sorting the sponsored event.

A New Year:

We look forward to welcoming everyone back to the school in September. It is a very exciting time for us with the new nursery being built on the top yard in the summer and a path linking both play grounds. The school is growing and we look forward to welcoming more children to the school in next year. We also bid farewell to a lovely group of year 6 pupils and we wish them the very best of luck in Ysgol Gyfun Gwynllyw and for their future.
Thank you again for all your support this year. We look forward to welcoming you back to the school on Tuesday, September 2nd.

Thank you.
