Merry Christmas:

Merry Christmas:

19th December 2013

We’ve had a very busy term here at Ysgol Gymraeg Cwmbrân. Here are some of the things that have been happening in the school:

Educational Trips / Llangrannog:
This term, the pupils have been on many different educational trips. The pupils have visited Cardiff Museum and Bit Pit; they have been to watch a pantomime and 66 pupils from years 5 and 6 visited Llangrannog for the weekend.

Christmas Concerts:
The pupils and members of staff worked very hard on the Christmas concerts and shows again this year. The performances were all excellent and we are very grateful to everyone for the hard work. Thank you also for being ready to make and buy costumes for the pupils. We’re hoping to develop a DVD of Oliver by the New Year. The ticket system worked very well this year and the money raised will be going to buy new equipment and books for the school.

The Choir’s Concerts / Singing in John Lewis:
The choir has been very busy already this year. The choir performed in a concert to raise money for the British Heart Foundation at the Congress Theatre and recently, the pupils performed in John Lewis, Cardiff for the Christmas shoppers. The school received a lovely email from the staff at the store, thanking the pupils and congratulating them on their excellent performance.

Operation Christmas Child:
This year again, we decided to take part in the Christmas project ‘Operation Christmas child’. The purpose of the project is to ensure that needy children all over the World will have the opportunity to open a gift on Christmas day. Over 50 boxes were collected and they have now been sent away so thank you to everyone who took part in this project.

Healthy Eating Week:
We had a very successful Healthy Eating Week in the school in October. Many different agencies came to talk to the pupils about healthy eating and the pupils took part in a number of different fitness activities. Thanks to Miss Manon Jones and Mr Passmore for their hard work with the organizing.

Money Raised:
Thank you to everyone who has helped us raise money for the school this term. Our charity money raised so far this year is £660. With the sponsored football activity, we raised over £1800 for the school which go towards new sport equipment and sport kits. Over £700 was raised in the school Christmas Fayre which will be going towards subsiding school trips at the end of the year.

Unfortunately, we are saying good bye to Miss Nerys Griffiths for the rest of the school year as she is going on maternity leave. We wish Miss Griffiths the very best of luck with her new baby and we are sure to miss her a great deal over the next few months. We welcome Miss Hazel Williams to the school for this period.

Thank you very much for all your support this term. We hope you enjoy the Christmas break and we look forward to welcoming the pupils back to school on Wednesday, 8th of January.

Thank you.
