This Term's News:

29th March 2012

Here is some information about some of the activities that have been happening in the school this term:

Sport Games:

The junior department pupils have been very busy this term, taking part in a number of different competitions. The teams have taken part in many football, rugby and netball games in Cwmbrân Stadium. Year 1 and 2 children have also enjoyed taking part in the ‘Little Stars’ rugby sessions which have started this term. One of the highlights this term was the football team’s trip to Cardiff on Gary Speed’s Remembrance Day. Here is a report by Jack, a pupil in year 6:

On Wednesday, the 29th of February, our school was in the Gary Speed Remembrance Day in Ysgol Pwll Coch. First of all, we got on the bus and went to Ysgol Pwll Coch and we met all the other schools. Then they asked us what we knew about Gary Speed. After a few questions, they mixed the schools in to different teams. After they mixed the teams, we played in a tournament opposite the school in a place called ‘Gol’.

After a few games, we played in our schools and we won a few and lost and drew a few. Then we went back to Ysgol Pwll Coch and there was a ceremony where they gave out programs about Gary Speed. Then, we went to McDonalds for tea. Then we went to the Cardiff City Stadium to watch the match, Wales against Costa Rica and the atmosphere was amazing and everyone enjoyed the match but they were disappointed about the result at full time. Thanks to Mr Passmore for arranging the day for us.

World Book Day:
We had a successful World book day in the school on March the 8th. The pupils came to school dressed as their favourite characters from a book and we saw a number of different characters in the school on the day. Some pupils from years 5 and 6 went to Cwmbrân Library to take part in a reading workshop and we wrote a story as a whole school, starting in the nursery and finishing in year 6.

St. David’s Day:
March the 1st was another exciting day at the school with our St. David’s Day celebrations. The pupils came to school dressed in their traditional Welsh costumes and we had a number of different activities in the school with an assembly in the hall and with a performance by Welsh harpist, Glenda Clwyd.

The Urdd Art Eisteddfod:
This year, all the pupils worked extremely hard on the art competitions for the Eisteddfod, along with the support of staff members and parents. The pupils took part in over 30 competitions and a very successful evening was had in Blackwood at the beginning of the month. Twelve items were judged in first place and these competitions will be going on to represent the county in the National Eisteddfod. Thank you to everyone for their support.

The Eisteddfod Sir:

Well done to everyone who took part in the Eisteddfod on the 24th of March. We had a very successful day as a school, with a number of different competitions appearing on the stage of the Eisteddfod. We also won the shield for the school with the most points on the Eisteddfod stage.

Stwnsh ar y ffordd / Jedward’s Big Adventure:

Recently, year 6 pupils, along with Miss Griffiths and Miss Passmore, have been filmed for the S4C program ‘Stwnsh ar y Ffordd’. The program will be aired on S4C in the summer term.

Trips to Saint Fagan:

This term, children from the infants have been on different trips to Saint Fagan to learn more about different themes studied this term. The pupils looked at different games, houses and shops that were used in the past.

E-safety day:

On the 7th of February, safer internet day was celebrated in the school. E-safety is now an important part of the curriculum and it is vital that all pupils are aware of the dangers associated with the internet. On this day, year 6 pupils went to different classes in the school to give presentations on e-safety which they had prepared themselves.

Thank you very much for all your support this term. We’re very much looking forward to the summer term at Ysgol Gymraeg Cwmbrân. The pupils will return to school on Tuesday, the 24th of April.

Diolch / Thank you.
