The latest news from Ysgol Gymraeg Cwmbran!

Thank you very much to Miss Hannah Phillips for organising the Scholastic Book Fayre at the school. £440 was raised during the week and this will be spent on additional English reading books for the Junior Department.

Congratulations to all the children who took part in the Urdd Eisteddfod this year. We had a successful year yet again and Amy Taylor and Anisha Walker and the Deulais Singing Group will be singing in the Urdd National Eisteddfod in Aberaeron in June. Congratulations also to Liam Worrow from Miss Evans’ class for his first prize in the photography competition. The school won the shield in the local Eisteddfod for the most successful school and the singing group won the silver cup for the best vocal entry in the Eisteddfod.

April will be a very busy and exciting time here at Ysgol Gymraeg Cwmbrân. On the 19th of April workmen from Pentagon Sport will be working on the school site developing the Infant/Foundation Phase school yard. They will also be working by the Nursery and the main entrance so pupils, parents and staff will all have to access the building by the side entrance. The work should be completed within a week. A new front door/entrance will also be installed during this time.

The following resources/structures will be added to the site:

 A wooden outside classroom (on the yard outside the Reception class)
 A wooden canopy outside the Nursery for parents/pupils to shelter.
 A 6m red triangular sail shade
 Picnic tables
 A large rectangle of green Wetpour with a black roadway and pedestrian crossings.
 An adventure climbing trail.
 A four way shoot for Basketball and Netball practice (Junior Yard).

We have also purchased a LCD screen for the main reception area. This will show school information to parents and visitors. It is also our intention for every class to produce a film which will be shown on the screen which will be produced with the assistance of Tom Maloney from the Fourteen Locks Centre.
The pupils will also benefit from an additional 12 laptops which have been ordered. We are developing Technology Rich Learning at the school and by now the school is wireless and the pupils have the use of 54 laptops in addition to the ICT suite.

Please remember about our Victorian Day on Monday the 22nd of March. The staff and pupils in the Junior Department will be dressing up and participating in a Victorian school day.
Please also remember about the Nursery Easter Fayre and the closing date for the Easter Bonnet/Hat Infants/ Foundation Phase competition on the 25th of March

There is a training day on the 26th of March so the last day for the pupils will be Thursday the 25th of March (normal end of school day closing times). The pupils will return to school on Monday the 12th of April.
